Meet Dr. Turk

Known for his thorough exams and gentle nature, Dr. Turk has become a friend to many in the community. He enjoys time with his son, Charlie, and coaching youth baseball. He also spends time hiking, kayaking, gardening and supporting his alma mater, the UAB Blazers.

Dr. Mark Turk, O.D.

Dr. Mark Layne Turk is a career optometrist certified by the American Optometric Association (AOA). He specializes in vision care and correction along with diagnosis, treatment and management of eye disease such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye and cataracts.

Dr. Turk was born in Northeast Alabama and grew up in the Sardis community. He received his Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1997. Dr. Turk received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1993. Following an externship at the Fort Washakie Indian Reservation Hospital in Wyoming, Dr. Turk returned to Northeast Alabama. He opened Advanced Eyecare in 2001 and has treated thousands of patients from Marshall County and beyond for more than 20 years.

Diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic himself at the age of 9, Dr. Turk developed an early interest in the disease and the effects it can have on diabetic patients. Dr. Turk felt led to a career in optometry where he could treat patients with diabetic retinopathy and other diseases of the eye.
